Women and Children First by Gill Paul @GillPaulAUTHOR

I have been really busy recently and I am ashamed to say that my reading and the blog have both suffered somewhat because of this  – so I am very happy to report that I have made the most of a cold, wet and generally unpleasant day by being able to curl up on the sofa with a book.

The book in question is Women and Children First by Gill Paul.

It is 1912. Against all odds, the Titanic is sinking.
As desperate hands emerge from the icy water, a few lucky row boats float in the darkness. On the boats are four survivors.

Reg, a handsome young steward working in the first-class dining room; Annie, an Irishwoman travelling to America with her children; Juliet, a titled English lady who is pregnant and unmarried, and George, a troubled American millionaire.

In the wake of the tragedy, each of these people must try to rebuild their lives.
But how can life ever be the same again when you’ve heard over a thousand people dying in the water around you?

Haunting, emotional and beautifully written, Women and Children First breathes fresh life into the most famous disaster of the 20th century. A gripping read from the bestselling author of The Secret Wife.

My Thoughts

I adored this book, and very nearly read it it one sitting. Like many others across the world I am fascinated by the Titanic but suspected that the book might be a little emmm..(whats the word I’m searching for??? flowery, flouncy)  for my usual tastes but as it is about the Titanic I had to read it.

Very glad I did, as I really enjoyed the story and I quickly got involved with the fictional characters and their lives whilst on board and also after the sinking (hopefully not a spoiler there). The author has clearly done her research well and I found I was familiar with the non fictional passengers and the events of that night. It flows really well and really does justice to the drama of the night and the aftermath of the tragic events.

Am very pleased to have discovered this author and I will be happily seeking out more of her titles..in particular The Secret Wife in which the Romanov family features highly from what the blurb says and also the upcoming Another Women’s Husband when it is released in August 2017.
